Top most common and worst passwords of 2024

For the sixth year in a row, NordPass has analysed and published the most commonly used passwords (aka: the worst passwords) of 2024. All passwords listed on this page were analysed from a range of data breaches and passwords stolen by malware, both personal and corporate.

Time and time again we see the reoccurring trends of insecure passwords. Note: having the password, secret, is in fact, not all that secret.

You can find a list of all most commonly used, and most insecure, passwords below. Firstly, you will find the worst passwords across all countries in 2024, followed by a breakdown of those across Ireland, only.

Create and Use Strong Passwords

It is important, now more than ever, to use strong passwords online. A strong password consists of the below:

At least 16 characters long
Includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
Includes one or many special symbols
Includes one or more numbers

Additionally, it is recommended to stay away from easily guessable information such as names, birthdays, or generally common words.
