Domain Registration

When creating a website, you will first need to choose your domain. Preferably this would resemble your business name. For example, Bluescope Technologies operates the domain of scope.ie.

You don’t have to limit yourself to one domain either. We can set up domain forwarding where you can own multiple domains that can all point to one primary domain. For example, Bluescope Technologies also owns bluescope.ie and bluescopetechnologies.com. Both point to our primary domain, scope.ie, so visitors who type either one still reach our website, and no one else can register them.

For a domain to be viewed online, it needs to be hosted with a website host service provider.

What is a domain?

A domain is the unique name of your website that is typed into your browser’s address bar.

E.g. www.scope.ie

What is hosting?

A website is associated with a domain and given the ability to be viewed online through a web host service provider. A domain and hosting go hand-in-hand when launching a website.

What is an SSL?

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate encrypts the connection between your website and your visitors’ browsers, so your website loads over https://. Without one, browsers warn visitors that the website is “Not secure”.

Can you register a .ie domain?

Yes. We can register most domain extensions, including .ie. A .ie domain requires a connection to Ireland, such as an Irish business or address.

Is an SSL certificate included with hosting?

Yes. Every website hosted with Bluescope includes a complimentary standard SSL certificate, so your website loads securely over https:// and browsers do not show a “Not secure” warning.

Are website backups included?

Yes. Every website we host is backed up automatically every day. Backups are kept for 30 days in off-site storage in an EU data centre, separate from the server your website runs on.

Can you restore my website from a backup?

Yes. We can restore your website from any of the last 30 days of backups, usually within minutes. Restores are included for clients on our website maintenance and management service, a Managed Services Agreement or a Bluescope Direct Support package. For hosting-only customers, a restore may be chargeable. A restore puts your website back as it was. It does not find out why something went wrong. Investigating and repairing a hacked or broken website is only carried out for clients with a support agreement in place: our website maintenance and management service, a Managed Services Agreement or a Bluescope Direct Support package.

Can several domains point to one website?

Yes. We can set up domain forwarding so that several domains all point to your main website.

How much disk space do I get?

Hosting with Bluescope includes a minimum of 20GB of disk space for your website.
